The Rev. James Original is rich and well-balanced with a mellow malty flavour that unexpectedly gives way to a clean, refreshing finish.

The Rev. James ales are based on an original recipe from 1885, and named in honour of brewing legend the Rev. James Buckley, saver of souls and satisfier of thirsts.

Brewed with our exclusive Buckleys yeast, they each deliver a signature taste with a surprising finish.

25/6/2024. Cask at the Dovey, Aberdovey/Aberdyfi. Aroma is malty, caramel, bready, dried fruits, marmite, yeast. Moderate sweetness, bitterness and body. Average carbonation. Lightly creamy. It’s ok.

On cask at City Arms, pours a clear copper with a small beige head. Aroma brings out English bready malt, a hint of toasted caramel, and toasted nuts. Flavour is smooth, with bready malt, toasted nuts, and light herbal/fungal notes. Nothing wrong here, just has that common fungal character. Fine.

Pint at Owain Glyndwr, Cardiff. Some potato skins aside. A clear reddish copper pour with a beige thick head, much to my surprise (thought it'd have no head whatsoever.) Not really aromatic: just a hint of earth, a tad of clay, some read berries's distant memories and you're done. Dry, not too crisp mouthfeel (this is served at room temperature.) No big faults, though. Bitterish, medium-lasting finish. Forgettable.

Cask @ Royal George, Pembroke. Clear copper-amber with a glow and a creamy head. Malty aroma and taste, with a few caramels in the mix in the latter. Very traditional brew.

Light leather, some lemon. Orange peel. Dark amber pour with great head. Creamy consistency. Light tangy finish. A little perfume. Not terribly complex but decent. Cask at City Arms.

Fles gedeeld door Koenzie. Het is een helder amberkleurig bier met een medium schuimkraag. Het heeft een moutige wat fruitige en hoppige geur. De smaak is vol, moutig en caramel achtig met tonen van honing.

Pours a clear coppery amber colour with a small frothy off-white head. The aroma is malty and fruity, a similar taste. Sweet malts, caramel and fruity flavours with a moderate hop bitterness.
