On tap.

Scotch ale from a young Swiss microbrewery – one of the few, apart from household name BFM, that gradually begin to gain some international acclaim. Very loose and thin, pale greyish beige, immediately open head quickly settling as a thin veil in the middle and a wafer-thin ring around the edge, but eventually disappearing altogether; misty ruddy-brown robe with deep reddish-vermillion hue. Quite strong and malty, alcohol-propelled aroma of caramel sauce, Belgian chocolates and even pure milk chocolate initially, brown rum, fudge, granola, dried banana slices, fig compote, candied dates, pecan nuts, hint of stewed venison. Sweet onset, lots of brown sugariness and fried banana, strong raisin and candied date aspects, very light sourish accent, soft carbonation, supple and bit glueish mouthfeel. Thoroughly toffeeish, caramelly malt body with soft pecan-nutty sides but low in toastiness, dried fruits lingering, late herbal hop bitterish touch but it is primarily the alcohol, with very rum-like character, that provides bitterness and some light astringency, while brown sugar, dried fruit and sweet-nutty malts linger. At close to 10% ABV (my bottle says 9.8%), perhaps this is a tad too strong for a typical ‘wee heavy’ and the alcohol could have been better hidden; also lacks a bit in the toasted bitterishness I tend to expect from the intended style, so that the end result has certain resemblances with quadrupel as well. Still, a very pleasant slow sipper, certainly enjoyed it and it motivates to get more beers from this brewery.

At Solothurner Biertage. Pours clear dark amber. Aroma is toasted malts, caramel, grassy hops. Body is heavy and super sugary sweet, diabetes, not much scotch. Almost tart. Atypical, but not in a great way.

Tap at Alehouse. Clear brown color with beige head. Aroma is raisins, toffee, booze. Taste is raisins, chocolate, bready. Oily mouthfeel with medium carbonation. Decent!
