Boasting notes of freshly-brewed espresso and rich chocolate, Dormancy Imperial Stout was conditioned on locally-roasted coffee beans from Yakima's Lincoln Avenue Coffee Co. As winter settles in to the Pacific Northwest and the hop fields surrounding our brewery lay dormant, this beer was crafted to remind us that good things can still happen in the off-season for hops.

12oz can from Pilgrim market. Near black pour with a thin cap of beige head. Roast malts and coffee vie for attention in the aroma, plenty bitter. Taste adds a smidge of chocolate to coffee/roast mix. Straight up stout.

Another Tavour delivery of a stout, thank you. 12 oz can, I like the label. Sharing this one over the internet with the blessed son, life is good. Into the Buffalo Bayou snifter it goes, jet black, no light going through this liquid. A nice topping of parchment bubbles, settles into a skim. The nose is of walking into a coffee shop. And the taste, not quite as attractive. Straightforward malt, a fairly non-sweet chocolate, roasty, earthy, grain and firmly bitter. Decent for a stout, I prefer the depth and impact of an imperial stout.

Can from Seattle Beer Company. Pours dark brn/blk with a large foamy tan head. Aroma of really nice, dark coffee. Touch of chocolate. Full bodied IMHO. Flavor is burnt, chocolaty malt with coffee so strong and dark it could be espresso! Dry. Bitter - whether malt, coffee or hops I do not know - but bitter. Very good and tasty ale.

Dark brown colour, harmonious aroma of roasted malt and coffee. Smooth mouthfeel, the roastiness is prominent and sharp, but with elegance; gentle fruit.
Very good.

Big coffee. Black pour with decent head and lacing. Bitter coffee end. Some cream, and too much coffee. Tap at Seattle Taphouse.

I’ll break up a streak of fine folks that randomly all enjoyed this at Cloudburst. Hop famous brewery, featured at another hop famous brewery, with their least hoppy beer. Though it is quite hoppy for a stout. Enjoyed in a pint at Thirsty Hop, Kirkland. Jet black pour with a thick tan cream head and lacing. Very mocha like stout here. Chocolate and caramel nose. Massive coffee bean impression with the flavor here. Lingering coffee bitterness. A total standout beer for these guys. Wouldn’t expect it one but, but this beer proves to me they are much more than a pale ale brewer. Solid stout to say the least. I could use this in the AM in gamedays before i head to Safeco and drink Field 41 for 8 hours straight.
