0.50l bottle. Clear dark brown color with large creamy light brown head that lasts quite long, pretty good lacing and sparkling appearance. Aroma of caramel, heavy toasted malt, chocolate, light herbal hops and hints of lemongrass. Taste starts with light sweet malt, not very rich, then followed by toasted notes and moderate grassy or herbal acidity. After a while strong toasted malty character bursts out, in the end is balanced with moderate bitterness. Mouthfeel is spicy, finish is long and bitter. Medium body, oily texture and almost flat carbonation in palate. Soon after first few disappointingly plain sips, general picture turned upside down, happy ending reached...

Had this at Elferhaus, Innsbruck 31.05.12 Pours reddy brown with good clarity and a light tan head. Very soft and smooth in the mouth, quite subtle compared to a typical German Dunkel. Some caramel and a little bitterness are the underpinning characteristics of this beer. A little mushroomy on the nose, fruity (dark fruits) with a slight tanginess. Good but no great shakes. A6 A4 T6 P4 Ov13 3.3

3rd Wiener Bierfest, Vienna, Austria. Sampled by Kis Salétrom and Szebeni Ászok. SZÁ: Na ez már javít a főzde pozitívabb megítélésén. Igazán ügyes kis söröcske ez, amit az ízlelőbimbókkal csinál az kacifántos. Krémes, jó a teste, ügyesen mozog. Olajos. KS: Afféle Balaton-íz és fogas. Mint amikor hasast ugrasz a vízibicikliről, de rosszul fogsz vizet és nagyokat nyelsz a Balatonból, de akkorákat, hogy még egy fogast is kifogsz vele.

On tap at Centimeter II, Vienna. Pours clear, red-brown with a big, off-white foam head. Roasty dark malt nose with hints of caramel. medium sweet flavor with a nice caramel character, toasty sugar and dark malts. Medium in body with average carbonation. Lightly dry, sweet finish with caramel, toasty malts and dark sugar. Exactly what I expect out of a dunkel. Nice.

Binny’s LP 500ml ($2): Pours a ruby brown colour with an off-white head. Aroma is slightly fruity and toasted malts. Taste was originally a bit tarnished with some metallic character, but as I kept going through it, things did improve. The beer is slightly sweet, with some dark fruits making appearances. It is like a really light doppelbock. The finish has a slight seltzerish feel to it alas.

Es ist ein durch und durch ausgewogenes dunkles Bier. Es ist dabei nicht zu süß wie viele andere österreichische Dunkles, sondern erinnert eher an ein tschechisches, obwohl es vom südlichen Ende Österreichs kommt. Es hat eine angenehme, freundliches Malzbasis mit gerningen Hopfenspitzen und lässt sich angenehm trinken. Warum es nach einer (Stink-)Morchel benannt ist, verstehe ich aber nicht ganz.

Bottle. Pours a dark ruby brown color with a longlasting off-white head. Has a slightly roasted malty caramel aroma. Sweetish malty caramel flavor with bitter hints. Has a sweetish malty bitter caramel finish.

Bottle. Deep translucent orange-red body, thin beige head. Relatively dry nose of toffee, caramel, toast, and a little brown sugar; also leafy hops. Dense toffee flavors dominate the body, which also features caramel and hints of chocolate. Long leafy, toasty finish. Quite good.
