ARTIO 2- One of our first ever barrel aged beers was Artio, a Belgian Brown (or bruin) aged with raspberries and brettanomyces. Artio is named after the Celtic god who took the shape of a bear. Artio 2 is the same Belgian Brown base but this time around we aged it with lactobacillus and brettanomyces, creating a sour version. Like the original, we finished Artio 2 with an absurd amount of raspberries.

16 oz crowler from Chinden taproom. wanted to grab something to go, and I hadn't had this one yet. Not a huge fan of sours, but can abide the Belgian classics and some fruity ones that are more sweet than tart. This is super sour, of the Belgian variety. Opaque mahoghany pour, fizzy head. Aroma is the yeasty funk with some fruity, berry notes. Taste grabs you by the tonsils for big tartness, behind which lurk some jelly jar notes. I think there's a barrel involved somehwere in there, woody notes. Will take me a while to get this down.

On tap at the brewery pours out a rusty amber topped with a small head. Nose is nice sweet raspberries rustic barrel tartness. Taste is more of the nice sweet raspberries and a barrel tart balance.

On Tap at the downtown taproom hazy deep redish brown. Thin fleeting off white head. Tart raspberries in the aroma and flavors. I don't get much Belgian yeast notes here the raspberries are the main player. Wonderful mellow malty fruit flavors and the sense of just an aged mellow sour deeply fruity ale. Very very good. Has to be my favorite barbarian beer of all time.
