As Stallhagen Honungsöl, with different label than shown here. Lacing, snow white, stable head over a yellow blonde, clear, fizzy beer. Aroma yields a volatile whiff of honey upon opening the bottle, but this fades away as quickly as it came, making room for less enchanting impressions of skunked ’lightstruck’ effect, breakfast cereals, soggy chicken corn, grass, some vague flowers and minerals. Clean, pretty much neutral onset, some minerals merging but no esters, prompting me to conclude that this is in fact a honey lager; some malt fruitiness shows up after that, grainy, vaguely sweet and a bit metallic, with thin mouthfeel. I get near to no honey in the flavor. Finish adds some grassy, lightly bittering hops. The overall effect is closer to a bland pale lager than to a true honey beer, and that is probably what this is - if you insist on ’pimping’ a pale lager with honey, then do make sure the honey is at least noticeable (see some of the Dutch examples)... Quite a surprise, but not in the positive sense.

Frisch-süßlicher Geruch. Sweetish-smooth, a bit rough, sweetish-mild. Sweetish-not too deep aftertaste.

330ml Bottle - Golden with a white head. Honey, malt and syrup in the aroma. Malty and fairly sweet taste with honey, biscuity malt, grain and syrup detected. Not bad, but becomes a bit sickly after a while.

50 cl bottle @ home as ”Stallhagen Harald Viikinkien Voimaolut”, BBE 01.06.2014
Aroma is quite typical to pale lagers; grainy malt, some hayish tones and honey – perhaps a bit more honey than usually. Flavour has buttery tones, honey, some grainy malt, hints of grass and herbs. Feels quite like their III – but with some extra honey. The honey gets stronger and sweeter towards the end of the glass.
