Dirty Sanchez is a Smoked Porter with notes of chocolate and wood smoke. Then we add a sombrero-full of chipotle chilli.

Bottle. Murky dark brown color with beige head. Aroma is strawberry yoghurt, chocolate. Taste starts with a smoky chipotle bite, then more milky strawberry yoghurt. Fatty mouthfeel with low carbonation. Maybe a bit too yoghurty.

Bottle. Pours dark brown with a beige head. Aroma is chocolate, smoke, chili. Body is medium, immediately spicy and hot, chili, low chocolate indeed, warming without becoming too hot. Balanced and pleasant, softly sweet palate. Good!

Fles @ Studio Dependance. Kut, chili. Dat had de vriendelijke jongedame er even niet bij verteld. Valt nog mee gelukkig

Zwart bier zonder schuim.

Bottle from Grand Cru Santarcangelo. Pours almost black, with moderate brown foam. Aroma is roasted, chocolate, very spicy. Body is average, average carbonation too, stringency from the chipotle peppers. Taste is moderate sweet, but evening else is taken over by the chili pepper. Finish is very long and spicy.

Black with thin head. Aroma has a hint of smokiness. Smooth and quite rich texture. The chilli heat grows and grows and lingers in the finish.

Keg at Red Squirrel High Wycombe. Black with a thin beige head and a moderate fizz. Up front there’s chocolate and light chilli and figs and a meaty savoury smokiness and a light oaky note- at first it seems a delightfully complex and unusual beer. However the chilli grows on further tasting- not to an unbearable or unpleasant level, but definitely to a level where some of the other flavours are rather masked. As it is it’s a great beer that put a smile on my face, but I felt that it could be made even better by toning down the chilli just a tiny bit to allow the underlying complexity to show through right to the end.
