The aroma is malt, but a dark carmelly sort. Translucent amber color. Not much head, but there is transient lacing. The start is malty sweetness, kind of thickly coating the tongue. The mouthfeel is substantial, and the malt candy aspect is offset by some stone fruit contributions. The somewhat sticky sweetness goes on into the finish, where it is reasonably balanced by hop. Really quite fantastic.

Bottle from Tuckers Maltings. Poured a rich golden colour with quite a bit of sweetness from the malts showing themselves in the aroma. I didn’t mind this but felt that the alcohol was just too harsh to really get into it, bit sticky and fruity but that alcohol was just so difficult to get away from.

180ml bottle (perfect bottle size for beer rating) picked up at Utobeer (BB: July 07). Slightly unclear, orange-brown body under a creamy off-white head leaving firm lacing on the glass. Pleasant aroma of plums, figs and winey hints. The gentle vinous touch continues into the flavour supported by underlying bitter sweetness giving way to discreet alcohol notes at the end. The downside is a rather sticky palate (08.03.2007).

Bottled. Clear, golden BW with a small white head. Sweet aroma with malt, alcohol and honey. Alcohol, sugar and some bitterness in the flavor. Warming, full body. Delicious, lovely, warming and sweet beer that would suit the winter better than the summer. (060801)
