Like the 2010 and 2011 editions, 2013 Bourbon Barrel Quad is 100% barrel-aged. The length of aging time ranged from eight months to two years using a combination of first-use and second-use oak bourbon barrels. The relative newness of the barrels resulted in a beer that is more oak-forward than previous releases. The tart cherry characteristics, while still subtly present, take a backseat to the warm, earthy qualities of the barrels.

Bottle at Picasso's Coffee in St. Louis. The beer pours a cloudy dark reddish-brown color with a medium beige head that recedes steadily. Partial rings of lacing on the glass. The aroma consists of bourbon, malt and dark fruit. Full-bodied with flavors of oaky bourbon, caramel malt and dark cherries. The finish is somewhat boozy with a lingering ripe fruit aftertaste. Pretty good overall.

Plenty of semi sweet cherry action to go along with the barrel aging. As yummy as I remember. Thanks Craftshack for the bottle!
