This tawny-orange ale immediately assults the senses with the character of hops from the Pacific Northwest. An aroma that combines grapefruit pith and pine resin foreshadows a strongly bitter beer. The flavor is spicy and juicy with citrus dominating over honey and floral notes, then giving way to a dry, chalky bitterness. The almost sweet finish is accentuated by the strength of the alcohol.

Bottle from Belmont Station, Portland; release #42, 9.9% ABV
Hazy dark blond color with generous compact head. Strong aroma: orange peel, hop resins, hints of mango, earthy too. Full bodied, fairly sweet but not cloying; the paler color of malt does a good job, no caramel stickiness; the strong hopping blends in very well, carrying loads of quality, sweet oranges and a bit of mango overall, with some grapefruit pungency in the final.
Excellent.

Clear golden colour, white head. Aroma of hops, tropical fruits, passion fruit and resin. Bitter hoppy flavour, grapefruit and citrus. Bitter finish, hops and pineapple. Nice.

Thanks! to Benzai. 650 ml. bottle sampled @ ZZT XIII. Clear orange, little white head. Nose is huge herbal orange peel, hop oil. Taste is herbal & pine resin oil, very oily, light fruit. Average body. Decent, touch too herbal. Not exemplary but solid for sure.

Bomber. Pours a golden/orange color. A good layer of white foam leaves some nice rings of lacing all the way down the glass. Aromas of grapefruit, tangerine, pine, and caramel malt. Taste is sweet caramel, pine, spice, and some citrus. Medium bodied with a fruity, resinous hop finish. Nice, even if a little sweet.

Release #33. Pours a medium ambery orange. Quite cloudy. The head is frothy and off-white. Lots of lacing and excellent retention. The aroma is big on tangerine, grapefruit, orange and pine hop notes. There’s a fairly strong caramel malt character, more sugar than I’d like but it’s not too over the top. A little bubblegum-ish. The taste starts off with sugary malt flavor. There’s also a good amount of citric hop flavor. Relatively little bitterness, though the finish has a decent bite. Still too much sweetness. Fairly thick feel. Lasting aftertaste. A little more than booze than I’d like but not too bad. It’s a fairly sweet DIPA with too much of a bubblegum caramel flavor to it, but it’s still rather tasty. The hops are nice, if somewhat unexciting. The malt sweetness is good enough in and of itself, at least. It’s just not how I prefer my DIPAs.
