This tawny-orange ale immediately assults the senses with the character of hops from the Pacific Northwest. An aroma that combines grapefruit pith and pine resin foreshadows a strongly bitter beer. The flavor is spicy and juicy with citrus dominating over honey and floral notes, then giving way to a dry, chalky bitterness. The almost sweet finish is accentuated by the strength of the alcohol.

Tap at Denver - a pretty abrasive, garlicky, soapy, bitter beer, even for the style - underlying, clean sweetness tries to balance, but it’s really the hop flavor, not the bitterness, that makes this hard to enjoy - Epic seems to most often favor hop profiles that impart a lot of sprouted garlic and other off flavors - Some of their hoppy beers I like, but many I do not - this is one of the later.

Bomber from Beverages for Less in Santee, CA. Faint print: Release 26/9.5%. Pours translucent gold with a creamy off-white head. Aroma is fresh fruit and citrus. Med body, about. Flavor is very bitter. Grapefruit rind. Could also be floral and resin. It’s mouth smashing hoppy. Mild hop burn which builds with time. Heat’s not an issue, but you can find it. Pretty strong flavors.

Release #11. Hazy gold beer, little white head. Smooth palate with a crispy trailing edge. Fairly grainy start, a bit much with the creamy pale malt. Smooth pine hops, pretty sweet. A little grassy bitterness underneath. Trace of orange citrus. Smooth dry finish. The malt is less dominant when the beer warms up a little and tastes a lot better.
