500ml bottle - not sure what to make of this. It is supposed to be an ESB, but the nose and taste is more smoky than spooky, with a bitter after taste. The look and palate are okay, but the taste.. I dunno. Too biscuity.

Cask @ Highlander Inn. Craigellachie
Amber brown, clear, thin white head, good lacing, some static bubbles
Aroma - caramel malts, slight toasted malts, soft toffee
Taste - caramel malts, touch of toasted biscuit malts, some soft bitter hedgerow hops, touch of citrus, herbal note in there, subtle fruity caramel malts, only a touch of the Shep yeast in here - subtle but quite complex
Palate -soft carb, thin to medium body. Finish as main flavour, fairly bitter fruity hops, hint of herbs, soft caramel and toasted malts
Overall - I was surprised by this..not usually a fan of Shep Neame but this was pretty good. It was served in top condition which I think helps a lot with this sort of beer - actually think this is the best beer I’ve had from them so far

50 cl bottle from Systembolaget, Mölndal. Can’t find a BB date, consumed on October 20, 2012.Clear dark copper to light ruby color, big lasting creamy off-white head. Sweet, malty, grainy, bread, caramel scent. Malty, dry, a bit harsh, grainy, husky, somewhat roasty, hints of solvents and resin taste. Medium to spritzy mouthfeel, harsh dry towards some glue aftertaste. Medium high dry harsh bitterness. Feels more of a sipping beer, despite the low alcohol, I’d have appreciated if it was a tad sweeter in taste, and less harshness. Even has a feeling of warming alcohol, oddly enough.
