According to Homer in his famous epic “Odyssey”, Alkinoos (king of Pheachians-Corfu) used to keep in silver and gold craters barley wine… 3000 years later Corfu Brewery creates a double fermentation beer with the addition of pure honey flowers

Bottle on the Island of Corfu, summer of 2017. Ruby red to brown, minimal head. Dried fruits, cherry jam, caramel, light honey, lightly nutty, but mostly fruity. Mostly dry, sweet emerges afterwards. Alcohol present, strong, kinda sticky texture, medium body, moderate carbonation, moderately lasting dry finish. Low honey presence, otherwise a good barleywine.

Bottle. Amber color with white head. Aroma is bready, grainy, malty, rusty nail. Taste is the same, unfermented metallic sweet. Oily mouthfeel with low carbonation. Meh.

Ravfarget klar med hyt beige skum som ligger godt. Lukter brent karamell, sjokolade, rde br og dadler. Middels + i fylde. Smaker middels bitter brent karamell, kaffe, lett fruktig mot svisker og rosiner. noe tung maltig karamell. Middels lang stlig, noe bitter avslutning. Kjenner lite til alkoholen.

33cl bottle outside the excellent ’beer house’ in Corfu Town on 13th Oct 2016. Sadly this beer did not live up to the hype; the story on the label was more interesting than the over carbonated, home brew like honey infused brew actually was. What a pity, the most unlike ’Barley Wine’ ’Barley Wine’ I have ever had. Scored kindly because I want breweries in places like Corfu to try out different styles and should be supported whenever possible.
