It’s mysterious, not (yet) proven, though required to explain gravitational interdependencies in space – Dunkle Materie (“Dark Matter”). In our case, this refers to the mystic interdependencies between the malty roast flavours of a stout and the floral hop notes of an IPA.
A black IPA, also called Cascadian dark ale or American black ale, is a fairly young kind of beer that, similar to dark matter, often needs explaining. A deeply black beer, topped by a fine and creamy head, it looks just like a classic Stout. On your lips, however, there is an intensely hoppy aroma that is similar to an India Pale Ale. At first, intense roast flavours reminiscent of espresso and dark chocolate dominate. These are quickly joined by floral, citrus-like hop notes that towards the end come to prevail. Each and every sip brings new nuances. The Black IPA wants to be explored anew every time, just like dark matter – the Dunkle Materie.

Bottle. Creamy lightbrown excellent fully lasting head. Black colour. Heavy malty and hoppy aroma. Heavy bitter flavor. Long fantastic heavy bitter finish. Creamy palate. Fantastic brew.

0.33l from Pivný Raj. Black color with high beige head - good retention. Aroma: roasted malt, citrus, chocolate, coffee. Taste: coffee, chocolate, citrus. Medium body, moderate carbonation, moderate bitterness. Roasted and hoppy character nicely working together.

0.33l bottle. Malty and hopy aroma, citrus fruit and caramel notes, chocolate. Black color, beige head. Malty and hopy taste, fruity notes, chocolate, light sweet, light to medium bitter. Medium to full body, slick texture, soft carbonation and malty bitter-sweet finish with hopy and light chocolate notes. Very good.

Bottle, almost a year past BB. Black, brown lace. Broad molassis, light roast, dark chocolate, light rural notes, citric hop aromatics. Medium full body, dry sparkly mouthfeel. Dry roast initially, dark chocolate, a bit salt lick, mellow licorice. Pleasant roast, smoke, burned milk, light citric/fruity retronasal, milk chocolate with orangepeel in the aftertaste. Probably dried out and mellowed a bit over the year which hasn't hurt it. Dry, but more of a Porter than a Black IPA.

Many thanks for this darkness of beer to Mariusz. Piana spora jakby 2 fazowa, pierwsza o koloze jasnego capuccino ta wyzej nieco jasniejsza, pachnie biszkoptami. Mroszczn i ciemna barwa nie przepuszczajaca swiatla. Smakowo sporo chmielnosci, wyczuwalna mocna i dlugo trwala goryczka w gardle, moze za krotko trwa ta cudowna chwila, ale smakowo wyborne piwo, Cimna IPA o smaku zimnej jakosciowej arabici popijanej ciasteczka korzenne i pierniki.

Bottle from Pivný raj This is gorgeous BIPA. Everything starts with great aroma which is mixture of roasted malt and citruses. Then the taste. That's something resins, fresh citruses and coffee with bitterness and light sourness and it's kinda sweet as well. You can find here everything. Great.

Bottle. Pours darkest brown. Aroma is liquorice, roasted burnt malt, chocolate, grassy hops. Body is heavy, strongly bitter and very roasted, quite sweet, with a discreet carbonation, liquorice and coffee flavours. Almost dry palate, lingering on roasted malt notes. Good!
