Bottle at Shelton Festival. Pours black with medium tan head that lasts. The aroma is cocoa, roasted malt, cracker. Medium body, roast, chocolate, licorice, dry finish, very good.

Bottle from Bine & Vine. Pours dark brown with a dark tan head. Aroma of smoke and very dark malt. Some dark chocolate. Full bodied. Flavor is chocolate, some smoky notes, some anise, could be some coffee. Not to mention incredibly dark roast malt. It's not 100% dry, but it is bitter and astringent. I think it's complex. Hard to parse everything. Let's toss in a bit of earthiness. Tis great stuff!

On tap at Diving Dog, pours black with a small tan head. Aroma is loaded with dark fruits, light roast and caramel. Flavour is along the same lines, with lots of caramel malt, moderate roast and some dark fruitiness. Thick, viscous palate, with a bit of phenolic character. Okay. Subpar for the style.

[2/3/16] Draught at Faction Brewing in Alameda. Black with a tan head. Aroma of roast, dark fruits, a bit of chocolate. Sweetish flavor, roasty, with dark fruits, a bit of chocolate, and an alcoholic note. Medium to full-bodied.

Draft. Black beer with a brown head. Light chocolate aroma with light nuttiness. Chocolate and light caramel flavor with light licorice. Medium bodied. Chocolate and licorice linger with light toffee.
