Brown Ale - Imperial Special Out of Production
Score
7.70
ABV: 13.2% IBU: 28 Ticks: 106
The first beer brewed for the barrel aging program and has been brewed every year since. Originally named after an experimental variety of hops but now brewed with US grown Fuggles which are earthy and resinous. A lean, simple barley wine brewed to showcase barrel flavors with massive bourbon barrel notes that morph as the beer warms in the glass.

12 oz bottle. 2017. The beer is a dark brown color. Looks quite clear. Small light beige head. Big deep toasted malt aroma. Nice rich stuff. Solid barrel character, though it’s a bit more restrained than expected and advertised. Caramel, molasses, vanilla, coconut, some spice, moderate oak. Light earthy hops. The barrel is sweet and friendly, quite good. Taste is sweet with a good hit of bitterness. The hops are more apparent. More barrel in the taste. Some body to it, a bit thinner than I’d like but doesn’t kill it. Good beer. Not my favorite from FW but good.
