Hercules Double IPA is not for the faint of heart. It is, however, fit for the gods. Hercules delivers a huge amount of hops from start to finish. Its hefty backbone of nutty, malty sweetness balances its aggressive hop profile.

12 ounce bottle into tulip glass, bottled on 4/19/2017. Pours crystal clear medium orange amber color with a 1-2 finger dense and rocky off white head with great retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Nice dense soapy lacing clings around the glass. Aromas of big grapefruit, tangerine, pineapple, peach, pear, mango, lemon zest, orange peel, citrus rind, light pepper, pine, caramel, toasted bread, herbal, and floral/grassy earthiness. Damn nice aromas with great balance and complexity of citrus/fruity/pine hops and moderate dark/bready malt notes; with great strength. Taste of big grapefruit, tangerine, pineapple, peach, pear, mango, lemon zest, orange peel, citrus rind, light pepper, pine, caramel, toasted bread, herbal, and floral/grassy earthiness. Good amount of pine/citrus rind/spicy bitterness on the finish. Lingering notes of grapefruit, tangerine, pineapple, peach, pear, mango, lemon zest, orange peel, citrus rind, pepper, pine, caramel, toasted bread, and herbal/floral/grassy earthiness on the finish for a while. Great complexity, robustness, and balance of citrus/fruity/pine hops and moderate dark/bready malt flavors; with a great malt/bitterness balance, and minimal lingering hop astringency after the finish. Moderate dryness from bitterness, increasing through the glass. Medium carbonation and medium-full body; with a very smooth and moderately creamy/bready/sticky/resinous/rindy balanced mouthfeel that is great. Alcohol is very well hidden with minimal warming present after the finish. Overall this is a great DIPA! All around great complexity, robustness, and balance of citrus/fruity/pine hops and moderate dark/bready malt flavors; very smooth and easy to drink, despite the aggressively bitter/drying finish. Great juicy hop complexity with a sizable malt backbone that is never overly sweet/heavy feeling. A very enjoyable offering.

12 oz bottle from De Bierkoning @ home. Nice to see this return to the Lowlands after several years of absence, it gives me another chance to rate it. Clear light amber color. Steady white head, with some lacing. Aroma’s: fruity, citrus, mango, pineapple, flowery hops. Retronasal it’s sweet fruits, dark fruits, malty sweet. Flavor is bitter with a malty moderate sweet backbone. Above medium bodied. Long somewhat earthy bitter finsh, a bit ashy even. Good stuff.

From the tap at FOB, Rimini, Italy. Pours intense gold, with white foam. Aroma is caramel and some citrus feeling. Nice aroma. Body is relatively dense, some stringency. Taste is intensely bitter, with a good malt base behind. Finish is long.

Bottle from Carmine Street Beer Shop. Must be a long standing one since it pours like a suspension of golden flakes in a copper liquid, spongy light beige head, floral hops aroma, med carbonation, bitter orange peel taste, thin body, long bitter finish. It gets much more bitter towards the end, don’t know whether due to expiry date issues.
