Tap at Great Divide. Hazy orange-amber with a fine, thick head. Big piny, juicy, resinous nose, caramel, orange. Sweet and a bit syrupy, lots o’ pine. A nice, old-school W-IPA. A bit anachronistic, but still good.

This was poured into a tulip.
The appearance was a semi-dark hazy brown color with a thin white semi-foamy head that dissipated at a nice pace. Light messy lacing
The aroma starts off with some glazed orange/citrus peel/rind bitter to sweet hops with some piney bitterness. Caramel malt balances in a sweet malty way.
The flavor takes the sweetness of the hops to the sweetness of the malts to enunciate a low riding overall sweetness. Light tobacco smooths into the aftertaste and finish.
On the palate, this one sat about a light to medium on the body with a slidingly smooth sipping quality to it. Carbonation runs fairly light.
Overall, old school styled DIPA that alleviates the pain of wanting it to be modernized. So, it’s built to last malty body helps it make it the sipper that it is.

Kuparinvärinen, kohtalaisesti luonnonvalkoista vaahtoa tuottava olut jättää myös kevyesti pitsiä. Tuoksussa yllättävän runsaasti toffeeta, pihkaisuutta ja mäntyisyyttä. Maku makean toffeinen, havuinen ja greippinen. Pitkä katkeran greippinen ja havuinen jälkimaku. Melko täyteläinen suutuntuma, alkoholi on hyvin piilossa. Aika yksipuolisen havuinen ja makean toffeinen kokonaisuus tämä tuntuu olevan ja eksoottinen hedelmäisyys loistaa poissaolollaan.

Bottle, bottled 29.02.2016 (from beergium). Pours amber wtih whiteish head. Nice lacing. Aroma is sweet, hoppy, caramel, pine. Flavor is sweet and bitter, a lot of pine, some citrus, caramel, malt. Finish is resin-dry bitter with some alcohol warmth. Alcohol is well covered. Overall: would like to try fresher version, but this is still very nice.

Hefty DIPA with different hop varieties, though the bottle does not state which ones, and nor does Great Divide’s website. Bottle of about half a year of age so should still carry a lot of hop aromas. Elaborately lacing, medium thick, off-white, moussy head retaining well seen the ABV, over a deep, ’autumny’, orangey amber coloured beer with a light haze of almost invisible yeast bits through which fairly vivid sparkling pierces from the bottom upwards. Both perfumey and pungent bouquet of a ton of bitter grapefruit flesh and grapefruit peel, pine needles, cigarette tobacco, curry spices, dried ginger, salted tomato, toasted white bread, roasted pine nuts, lychee, tangerine, bitter honey, biscuit, hemp, mouldy lemon, gin, egg yolk, marmelade. Clean fruity onset with hints of mango, lychee and orange, sweetish and smooth with some very light umami touches here and there (cooked chicken) as well as a modest onset of edgy hop bitterishness already appearing; carbo remains soft, mouthfeel is supple, smooth, resinous and oily. A solid backbone of caramelly sweet and nutty malts support the hops growing in intensity from beginning to end, leading to a thoroughly bittering, spicy, chicory-, wormwood- or even tonic water-like finish with lingering salty edges, drying the back of the mouth completely so that no malt sweetness can pass through anymore. Retronasally, all these vivid pine, grapefruit, tangerine and dried spice fragrances return in full glory. Alcohol, though noticeable as a subtle warming effect after swallowing, remains well hidden for a 10% ABV beer. Not the single most overwhelming double IPA I had so far (that must have been Heady Topper), but still an extremely solid example of its style, with the flavour clearly tilted towards the hop bitterness (I guess I like my DIPAs with some more malt sweetness); in short, one for die hard hopheads, as it does not compromise on its hoppiness at all, like the label and website announce. Pine fragrance is very strong in this one as well as grapefruit (in both pink and yellow variations), it is clearly the hops which get all the credits here - surely I will have their resinous, spicy bitterness hanging around in my mouth for hours to come.
