The Black Prince was the eldest son of Edward III. He was married to Joan of Kent and is buried in Canterbury Cathedral. This is a full bodied mild, very smooth on the palate with subtle hop notes.

Bottle. Very earthy berrylike and honey aroma. Light murky brown, tanned bream. Dry straw and earth base, sparingly used hops - more might have prevented the light infection. Saltlick finish. meh.

Handpull cask at the Half Moon, Hitchin. Translucent brown with a loose cream-coloured head. Quite lively considering the dispense method. Liquorice abounds in the aroma but there’s also a hint of Robusta coffee. Taste is sweet but there’s a bitterness in the malt that gives it body, depth and balance. Some bitter sourness in the finish, with more roast coffee. Body’s a bit watery. Hovers around average for me: tasty but not all that lively.

Half-pint, hand-pulled on 30th Sep 2016 at The Crown Inn, Oakengates. Dark brown with a red hue, tanned topping. Smooth bodied, slick almost, aroma and taste had hedgerow fruits in a malty pot; a trace of hop bitterness in the finish. Decent.

Cask at Ale Caesar, Margate. Poured a clear reddish brown with little life. The aroma is roasty malt, dry coffee, light spice. The flavour is moderate liqourice bitter with a smooth, flavourful, roasty, light dry liqourice, light hop bitter palate. Medium bodied with soft carbonation.

Cask @ The Grove, Huddersfield. Very dark with a small off-white bubbly head. Crisp in the main with a washy roasted malt aroma taste that’s very light. More stated in its nose.
