Das Urbier der Franken leuchtet in der Farbe einer intensiven Roßkastanie mit feurigem Rotstich. Über dem klar filtrierten Gerstensaft steht ein cremefarbener, fein- bis mittelporiger Schaum. Im Geruch entfalten sich Malz-, Getreide- und Brotaromen, unterlegt von Röst- und Toastnoten sowie Anklängen von Apfel, braunem Zucker und Süßholz. Angenehm weich und süß fließt es beim ersten Schluck in den Mund. Anschließend offenbaren sich auch hier Getreide-, Brot- und Röstaromen, gefolgt von Schokolade, Espresso, Karamell und Paranuss – mit einer präsenten Bittere im Abgang.

Ein sehr schön dunkles Bier. Im Antrunk sehr schön malzig, aber doch sehr dominierender Hopfengeschmack, der auch im Nachgeschmack noch sehr dominant ist und noch lange anhält. Wer auf sehr herbe dunkle Biere steht, für den ist es bestimmt sehr lecker, aber mein Fall ist es nicht ganz.

Gravity dispense at GBBF ’13, 15/08/13. Clear chestnut brown with a thin beige head. Nose is bready malts, toffee, earthy notes, light hops. Taste comprises caranel, dark fruits, sugars, bready malts. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, crisp finish. Decent drop.

Draft at the Great British Beer Festival 2013. Poured a dark ruby colour with a dense, creamy head. Aroma of malts, chocolate and caramel. Flavour is quite sweet with brown sugar, dried fruit and bread. Some grain and a little coffee on the palate.

Gravity at GBBF. Amber-orange color with a thick, fine head. Rich chocolate malt flavor, caramel. Richly layered malt flavors, bready chocolate. Nicely done.

Chestnut color. Very malty vegatal nose. Cracked wheat, milk chocolate smooth malty mouth but not hugely balance. A touch astringent. Ok.

Cask at gbbf 2013. Attractive ruby red chestnut colour with a thick persistent cream head. Nose is wood and malty. Flavour is woody . med palate. Slightly metallic. Decent.

Surprised at this being classified as a dunkel, it seems right on target for the style. The aorma and taste show off the roast grains and its has just the right amount of coffee bitterness. Mouthfeel is slightly watery, and that seems to be the only downside.

Brown colour. Has an off-white head, mostly lasting. Faint roasted notes, bread. Flaavor is moderate sweet, light bitter finish.

Bottle @ Uncle Chris’ house in Fürth. Hazy dark brown appearance with a light brown head. A touch burnt, toasty malty, light caramel, nutty, herbal aroma. Well carbonated. Somewhat nutty, toffee, toasty malty, floral hoppy flavor. Not bad.

Milder Malzbeginn, weich. Im Mittelteil nahe der Wässrigkeit, geringe Röstnoten im Hintergrund. Das Bier ist insgesamt leider zu mild um wirklich zu gefallen, die Grundnoten sind dabei aber harmonisch. Schade. 8/6/8/7/9/7
