Bottle. Archer Road Beer Stop, Sheffield. Clear, light copper colour. Thick, frothy, cream coloured head. Nose has caramel. Syrupy malts. Hint of dried stone fruit. Taste is sweet and lightly spicy. Fleeting bitterness. Syrupy mouthfeel, that’s not great. Has a spicy finish. Ok.

Bronze amber, a little red with little beige head. Dried fruit and fresh citrus, also some booze. Overwhelming sweetness, that was too much for me, bitterness in the long finish. Full body, well balanced carbonation. Overall the sweetness ruined it for me. Apart from that a decent Doppelbock. No idea why this labeled as Heller Bock.

Flasche (50 cl) von Hopfen & Malz, Berlin-Wedding. - Orangegelb, fast kupferrot, klar; sahniger Schaum. - In der Nase bocktypische, leicht getreidige helle Malzsüße, Anklänge an überreife Banane und Honig, milde grasige Herbe. - Im Antrunk breites helles Malz, schön malzsüß mit Karamel und leichten Honignoten; grundiert von angenehm aromatischer, grasiger Hopfenbittere. Mild rezent, schwer. Recht milder Abgang mit schwach krautigem Hopfen und nachhallender kerniger Malzsüße. Beim Wärmerwerden dominiert Karamelmalz etwas zu stark. - Sehr schöner heller Bock, malzaromatisch aber nicht sirupartig, der durch milde aber aromatische Hopfung den nötigen Tiefgang gewinnt und dabei doch süffig bleibt. - Der Reutberger Josefi-Bock ist noch einen Tick stärker als der Weihnachts-Bock (P 17 statt P 16).

50cl bottle I picked up at Arrowine. Pours a totally clear orange with some thin, cloudy, white head. Nose is sweet and bready, Bosch pear, Macintosh Apples, some honey, a little spice. Flavor is malt, sweet, fruity, honey comb, pear, apple. Lightly sweet, clean finish. Standard.

Whole Foods, Bowery 50cl ($5): Pours light amber with a creamy white head. Aroma is plastic, bubblegum, a hint of hop, and some vague fruitiness. Taste is slightly sweet. Body is medium. Alcohol is fortunately covered, which is more than I can say for many a heller bock. Old-fashioned. non-descript candy is the main flavor. This ain’t bad, but it is kind of boring. I don’t really feel like drinking the whole bottle.

Purchased from Orterer Getränkemarkt in Garmisch-Partenkirchen 30.05.12 consumed at Hailes Abbey, Gloucestershire 16.06.12 Really nice beer. Some fruitiness snd toffee combining well, warming, malty and quite chewy. Not sure of colour as I am drinking this sat around a campfire with the rest of KBO morris, it is quite dark this evening now but in my glass it looks good. A6 A4 T7 P4 Ov14 3.5

bottle, purchased at the brewery. Clear chestnut-brown colour, large beige head. Full-bodied, malty with flavours of caramel, roasetd malts and honey, shy hop flavours in the lingering finish. Good.
