Launch into the exquisite flavors of bourbon with splashes of vanilla. Watch for currents of dark chocolate and dried fruit. Generous amounts of hops and malts make for a smooth journey from start to finish. Decadent desserts and aged cheeses make superb companions.

Riktigt gott!

750 ml. bottle sampled @ HopisHop B.U.M.B. 2016. Dark amber, tanned head. Nose is warming oxidized malt syrup, low iron, sugar, herbal sweet sticky malts, not very bourbon forward. Taste is lightly bitter herbal, you get more sweetness as it warms up, sugar, herbal, pleasant toffee & caramel with low herbal malt bitterness, nice, sugar, little bourbon actually but it is a nice malty treat as it is so it doesn’t matter. Thick malt, herbal sugar body.

Bottle from Whole Foods. Not much to look at, but a pleasure to drink. Bourbon barrel aging smooths out the entire package, making this one an easy to drink BW. Malts shine throughout, tons of caramel, toffee and butterscotch. Not much of the BA is readily evident, just subtle notes here and there, and toning down the 11% ABV to drinkable levels.

Bottled 07/29/13. (aged review)
This was poured into a snifter.
The appearance was a soft burnt brown color with a thin wisp of a white little head. Delicate messy lacing wove around the glass.
The smell started off with dried dark fruits. Sweetness from the dried dark fruits rolls into a nice dried woody aroma.
The flavor takes in the dried woody flavor with a nice sweet dying bourbon flavored dark fruitiness. Dry woody aftertaste and a semi-sticky finish.
On the palate, this one sat about a light to medium on the body with a decent sipping to sessionable quality about it. Carbonation has definitely died off. Very dry and pounding on my tongue.
Overall, its still a good Barleywine leaning towards the English side of the wheelhouse. I’d like to try again fresher. Still,, I believe this one aged nicely.
