500ml bottle. Clear reddish dark amber colour with average, frothy, fairly lasting, minimally lacing, off-white head. Hoppy aroma with underlying, minimally toasty, malty notes, roasted dark bread, coffee-surrogate. Taste is grainy, toasty caramel malty, dry hoppy overtones; a bit thin, light-bodied, watery.

(swing top bottle) Clear, dark amber colour with a medium-sized, slightly beige foamy head. Aromatic, sweet malty, slightly roasted aroma with light notes of caramel, liquorice and a distinctive spicy herbal hoppy touch. Bitter-sweet flavour, medium to light bodied with a soft carbonation. Toast-malty base with roasted notes and caramel plus a herbal touch from behind. Medium-dry, slightly sweet malty and moderately bitter, herbal hoppy finish. Very quaffable and pretty well-balanced Festbier.

Flip-top bottle:Amber coloured, quite stable off-white creamy head, distinctive mix of toasted, sweet malt and aromatic hops in the aroma; moderate bitter sweet flavour, very soft MF, light medium bodied; only slightly sweetish, mainly "wooden" hoppy lingering finish. A very fine sample from good old Franconia......
