As the name suggests, this 11.3% ABV American Imperial Stout is the foundation of everyone’s favorite, Sunday Morning Stout, with a twist (and without the barrel aging)… This brew captures everything you’d expect from a traditional molé – coffee, chocolate, heat and smokiness. Foremost is coffee, which is followed by layers of chocolate courtesy of the chocolate malt, cocoa powder and cacao nibs. Finally, a subtle lingering heat and smokiness from our blend of ancho, pasilla, mulato and chipotle peppers, as well as cinnamon, which is gone by the time you’re ready for your next sip.

Black with a dark head. Medium to thick body. Full of sweet roasted malt, coffee, cocoa, light smokiness, and a good pepper filled burn in the finish. The sweet roasted malt lingers while the peppers burn off quickly. Very well done.

Pours soy black into a tulip. Mocha head quickly recedes to stillness. Chocolate, chipotle and coffee aromas. Medium to sharp with soy and licorice upfront turning to cinnamon and dark chocolate before the mild chipotle in the smoky burn finish.

12 oz bottle from Tavour. Nose is chocolate, roast coffee, and more really dark roasted coffee. Black with a small, lightly lacing, cinnamon tan head. Flavor is lightly peppery, lightly sweet, chipolte peppers, and dark chocolate with coffee accents. Nice!

Bottle dated 09/27/16 and supposedly expires two years later.
This was poured into a snifter.
The appearance was a pure black color with a tan foamy head that dissipated immediately into oblivion. No lace.
The aroma had milk chocolate blending with some light char/ash and then some peppers to cinnamon spice. Just a touch of vanilla to add a touch of complexity at the end.
The flavor blends the sweet to the spice extremely nice. Char/ash tends to sit further back allowing more roast to come through in this department. Brisk dry semi-sweet to lightly spiced aftertaste rolling into the finish.
On the palate, this one sat about a medium on the body with a great sessionable quality about it. Carbonation seems like it’s starting to fall off just a tad but still that doesn’t distract from the rest of the feel of this one. The cinnamon and peppers assist in giving that needed kick to keep any cloying quality from showing up.
Overall, an exceptionally nice imperial stout exacting upon some palate wrecking qualities that actually come across fairly tame. Perhaps, I just had this at the right time, judging upon born on date. I’ll have to remember that for next time.

Bottle. Pours inky black with very small frothy beige head that disappeared fast, mocha aroma, low carbonation, mocha taste with alcohol undertones and a bit of chili pepper, thick body, long bitter mocha finish with alcohol aftertaste. The alcohol bite is a bit too much.

Sampled from a 12 oz brown bottle this beer poured thick and black with a large foamy very dark brown head that lingered and left decent lacing. The aroma was cinnamon sugar, toasty malts and coffee. The flavor was bitter floral hops, cinnamon, coffee, toasty malts, wood and cocoa. Very long finish. Thick and full bodied. Excellent.

The peppers are prominent, though not overpowering. The coffee and cinnamon control the heat.
