As the name suggests, this 11.3% ABV American Imperial Stout is the foundation of everyone’s favorite, Sunday Morning Stout, with a twist (and without the barrel aging)… This brew captures everything you’d expect from a traditional molé – coffee, chocolate, heat and smokiness. Foremost is coffee, which is followed by layers of chocolate courtesy of the chocolate malt, cocoa powder and cacao nibs. Finally, a subtle lingering heat and smokiness from our blend of ancho, pasilla, mulato and chipotle peppers, as well as cinnamon, which is gone by the time you’re ready for your next sip.

Sampled from bottle at the special Weyerbacher tasting at the Getränke Oase. Black creamy brown, golden lace. Chili, coffe, roast, honey aroma. Deep coffee, chocolate, roast, dark sugar flavor. Sweet but not sticky, coffee and fruity chili pepper finish. Awesome stuff.

Appearance’s a deep brown black opaque color and a fizzy very short-lived head no lace. Aroma is roasted malt chocolate malt burnt sugar cocoa and a bit of perfume. Flavor is similar to Knowles don’t pick up much heat and a hint of coffee. Body is on the thin side. The bulk of the flavor is gone for the Finish, but a hint of it remains for a long time.

Bottle. Dark brown color with tan head. Aroma is freshly grated espresso beans, fresh chili, black chocolate, some booze. Taste is chili, more aromatic espresso, silky mouthfeel, low carbonation. Awesome!

Burnt caramel, roast and a hint of chili. Cacao. A fair amount of coffee. Some cinnamon. Black pour without much head or lacing. Oily texture. Bittersweet finish with an overdose of booze. Not quite in same league as Sunday Morning Stout. Tap at Whole Foods.

On tap at the Office. Black pour, with a medium, creamy, tan head. The nose is caramel and milk chocolate, with a nice, mild chili pepper note. Some cinnamon and peat. Sweet and malty, with a light bitterness and very mild spiciness. Heavy body, smooth, silky, and clean. This is a solid, tasty stout. The spice is very understated, but pleasant.

12oz bottle at Cock & Bowl. Poured a dark brown, almost black color with a light tan head. Aroma was a nice, bold blast of roasted malts, coffee, espresso notes. Dark chocolate. Flavor was heavy roasted malts, bitter chocolate. Light heat on the finish, but not overwhelming. Alcohol is there, but it’s really smooth. Nice stuff.

Bottle. A- Chilies, cinnamon, cocoa. A- Black color, black liquid, brown head. T- Chilies, cinnamon, cocoa, vanilla. P- Full body, average texture, average carbonation, complex finish. O- I was intrigued by this when I first saw it as I love love love Sunday Morning Stout. I also love some good Mexican hot chocolate types of stouts. This was certainly good, maybe not the best but still complex and tasty.

12 oz bottle. Pours black with a brief brown head. Coffee aroma with a little hint of chili pepper and anise. Cocoa and roasty coffee flavor, some chili pepper bite produces a bit of smokiness with the roastiness. Quite good.
