As the name suggests, this 11.3% ABV American Imperial Stout is the foundation of everyone’s favorite, Sunday Morning Stout, with a twist (and without the barrel aging)… This brew captures everything you’d expect from a traditional molé – coffee, chocolate, heat and smokiness. Foremost is coffee, which is followed by layers of chocolate courtesy of the chocolate malt, cocoa powder and cacao nibs. Finally, a subtle lingering heat and smokiness from our blend of ancho, pasilla, mulato and chipotle peppers, as well as cinnamon, which is gone by the time you’re ready for your next sip.

12 oz bottle poured into a tulip. Courtesy of DCLawyer, thanks Jason! Black with half a finger of tan head. Aromas of dark chocolate, light spices, some booze. Tastes of dark chocolate, cocoa, light spices, some booze, a little pepper flesh. Spices aren’t as prominent as I was expecting. Full body with a dry finish.

Bottle. Pretty close to black color, thin beige head that settles quickly. Aroma of burnt leather, burnt licorice, tobacco. Taste is very sweet and rick tobacco, burnt espresso, dark chocolate, plums. Bit of pepper in the finish. Interesting.

12 oz. bottle, thanks to Willrunforbeer! Pitch black liquid, light white head. Aroma of old coffee, weak roar, mild vegetables, cinnamon.
I am not a huge fan of the "Mexican" chocolate stouts but this is pretty good. Palate is a medium body - full body, with some creamy texture. The alcohol is well hidden. Chocolate, spicy peppers and a tad high on the cinnamon. About what it you should expect.

12 ounce bottle into snifter, bottled on 9/15/2016. Pours dense pitch black color with a small foamy tan head with poor retention, that reduces to nothing pretty quickly. No glass lacing and some moderate streaming carbonation. Good appearance. Aromas of big dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, cinnamon, molasses, fudge, toasted dark bread, and chili peppers; with light licorice, dark fruit, smoke, char, herbal, and roast/charred earthiness. A bit of booze appears as it warms. Damn nice aromas with great balance and complexity of dark/roast/bready malt and coffee/spice/pepper notes; with great strength. Taste of big dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, cinnamon, molasses, fudge, toasted dark bread, and chili peppers; with light licorice, dark fruit, smoke, char, herbal, and roast/charred earthiness. Good amount of roast/char bitterness and moderate cinnamon/pepper spiciness on the finish; with lingering notes of dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, cinnamon, molasses, fudge, toasted dark bread, chili pepper, smoke. char, and roast/charred earthiness earthiness on the finish for a while. Fantastic complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/roast/bready malt and coffee/spice/pepper flavors; with a great malt/bitter/spiciness balance, and zero astringent flavors after the finish. Light-moderate dryness from roast/char bitterness and spiciness, increasing through the glass. Medium carbonation and full body; with a very smooth, creamy/slick, and sticky/chalky balanced mouthfeel that nice. Could have used a bit less carbonation. Mildly warming alcohol for 11.3%; with minimal pepper heat as well. Overall this is an awesome spiced pepper stout! All around great complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/roast/bready malt and coffee/spice/pepper flavors; very smooth and dangerously easy to sip on for the big ABV. Look forward to aging this to mellow out the spices a bit. It is quite bold on spice fresh; but not overwhelming, and still nicely balanced with the base stout. A highly enjoyable offering.
