Bottle shared with Johnny. Opaque pitch black color, dark brown colored head. Aroma is malts, some roast, light liquorice, laurel. Flavor is malts, liquorice, laurel, light peat, band-aid, roastyness, bitter. Good but not as good as I had hoped. Too much laurel for me.

Taste at Trail's End. Pours black, with a dense, frothy, brown head. The nose is chocolate syrup, toasted oak, licorice, apple brandy, bold coffee, and vanilla. Sweet and malty, with a light, roasty bitterness. Heavy, grainy, and complex. Lovely.

Taster at the brewery - slick mouthfeel - fairly boozy, and kind of smoky, giving impressions of scotch - some notes of red wine, espresso, peat, cocoa - I dig the smokiness, but could use less burn.
