Pours amber from the bottle. The finger thick head foams and fades quickly. Light chocolate aromas. Taste is caramel and chocolate with a light herbal bitterness. Dry. Not a lot of evident carbonation, but it often feels like a beer that’s flavors are battling with a marred palate. I’m putting it down to sulphuric water. Okay.

Notre Icelandic Doppelbock se présente avec, sur la bouteille, un islandais se prenant pour Rudolph le Rennes du Père Noël avec un joli nez rouge pour se diriger dans le brouillard. Reste à savoir si celui ci saura nous élever dans le ciel. Les 6,7 % Abv de carburant paraissent cependant insuffisant pour une bonne accélération. Mais leur atout est peut être dans les 4 malts utilisés pour nous amener vers le firmament (munich, pilsner, crystal et choco). En verre, du classique avec un ambré foncé, des bulles épaisses ne permettant pas même à stabiliser une fine mousse beige de 2 mm d’épaisseur. Le nez se porte sur le chocolat, le caramel avec une pointe de café. Mais montons dans le traîneau! L’attaque est douce, sur le caramel et les fruits rouges mûrs. Du classique mais acceptable. La seconde bouche reste alors une énigme avec un manque d’arôme surprenant. On a égaré notre islandais....qui fait réapparaître le bout de son nez rouge en troisième bouche sur des notes de chocolat et une pointe de café. L’arrière bouche sucrée est sur les fruits rouges mûrs, conférant à l’ensemble une bonne corpulence mais sur une longueur juste acceptable. Notre islandais manque cependant de caractère avec peu de complexité, une absence d’épices décevante pour une bière hivernale et surtout avec manque de puissance globale, les 6,7 % Abv étant largement insuffisants. En conclusion, n’est pas Rudolph qui veut! Et j’ai bien peur que le traîneau tombe à la renverse avec un tel meneur...

330 mml bottle tasted on the 23/12/2016. Ruby brown colour with a dense beige head. Aroma of caramel, chocolate and wood. Taste is chocolate and toffee with a nice dry aftertaste. Next one please!

Review based on the BJCP2015 guidelines (style 9A). Bottle 33 cl - Batch 06.09.16 (BBF 06/NOV/2017). AROMA: medium malt aroma with toasty notes, some toffee and faint roasted bread crust. low cooked vegetal note (cereal husks). APPEARANCE: dark ambar color and clear. medium ivory head with medium retention. TASTE: medium-low toasty malt presence without much complexity. Maillard compounds absent. medium-low bitterness with a semi-sweet finish. PALATE: medium body with medium-low carbonation. slight alcohol warmth. OVERALL: a Doppelbock that resembles a Strong Bitter flavor-wise. Needs more malt complexity.

Nagy, tartós hab, barna szín. Karamelles, malátás illat, némi aszalt gyümölcsös aromával. Malátás, karamelles ízvilág, pici aszalt gyümölcsösséggel és fűszeres beütéssel. Közepesen testes, erősen szénsavas, enyhén keserű. Kellemes, iható sör, de ennyi.

Bottle: Clear, dark purplish-brown with a small, off-white head. Dark bread crust, dark caramel scent. Taste is dry, chocolate malt, caramel malt, dark bread Slightly wooden/earthy bittering. A touch of tobacco. Very good.

Bottle. Woody chocolate malt and dry hay aroma. Dark brown with small head. Moderately sweet coffee, chocolate malt, and moderately bitter wood/dry hay flavor. Nice body. Very nice.
