This beer is a collaboration with our neighbour, Tiley's Brewery. Situated in an outbuilding at the wonderful Salutation Inn at Ham, Tiley's Brewery makes fantastic traditional British beer styles. Previously we have combined our brewing interests to make a Vatted Porter (released in 2018). To follow on from this, we have produced a non-traditional realisation of the pale beers shipped to India in the 18th and 19th centuries.
Two different types of hoppy pale beer were blended to form Old IPA. The first, a West Coast-style IPA with Kiwi hops, fermented with ale yeast and matured for 23 months in neutral oak barrels with our house culture of wild yeast and bacteria. The second, an approximation of an IPA recipe from 200 years ago, hopped with huge quantities of whole leaf East Kent Goldings and fermented in neutral oak barrels for 22 months. The resulting blend, bottled in April 2021, is dry, bright and firmly bitter with light refreshing acidity.

High class Wednesday at #RatebeerOdense. Hazy golden with a big white head. Fruity aroma with grapes, citrus pineapple and a hint of funk. Dry and slightly tart fruity flavour.

Bottle. Mills online. Mostly clear pale to medium gold. Nose has Gewurtztraminer like grape. Peppery hop leaf. White wine dregs. Sawn wood. Touch of sweet biscuit malt. Taste is tart and dry with a leafy and lemon rind bitterness. Fresh and bright on the palate with lively carbonation. Nice hit of lemon rind bitterness to finish.
