Sample (thanks omhper!). Black colour, not much head. Aroma is liquorice, some burnt wood, alcohol and mild dark chocolaty tones. Flavour is dried fruits, dark chocolate, burnt wood, alcohol and some slight almond tones. A bit Amarettoish finish.

I enjoyed chocolate malts when I was a kid. Time to see if that translates with booze in it. As I pour from the stovepipe can into my New Belgium globe glass, I see a bit thinner than usual for Clown Shoes, dark brown liquid with a smattering of a cover of medium tan foam. The nose is a deep dark chocolate with perhaps some dark fruit in the background. The taste, only better, with malt, semisweet chocolate, toast, berries and a bit of roastiness combining with the bourbon. Nice. Great to have a good Clown Shoes imperial stout again.

Tall boy from The Davis Beer Shoppe. Pours dark brn/blk with a transient tan head. Aroma of chocolate, dark malt and bourbon. Med body or so. Flavor is chocolate, dark malt and bourbon. Not dry. But not sticky. Heat and toasted malt render it somewhat bitter. A bit thin for the style. There's wood, but it's hard to find. Tasty enough.

19oz can from Hannaford Solid black in color with a moderate quickly receding tan head. Earthy chocolate and roast with hints of fruit and a faint lactic cherry. Very light woody vanilla barrel character. Decent brew.
