This beer is collaboration between Dogfish Head, Stone Brewing Co. (Escondido, CA) and Victory Brewing Company (Downingtown, PA).
The idea for this beer germinated way back in 2003 when the three guys (Sam from Dogfish, Greg from Stone and Bill from Victory) formed the BUFF alliance (Brewers United for Freedom of Flavor) - a noble endeavor with the goal to highlight the passion and camaraderie of the American craft brew movement.
So, BUFF didn't really do anything (beyond talk a lot of talk) until 2010 when the three brewers finally got together to jointly brew at beer at the Stone Brewery. Saison du BUFF was first brewed at Stone and then replicated at each of the other two breweries - same recipe, same ingredients, three different breweries throughout 2010. The brewers have a repeat performance planned for 2012!
Saison du BUFF is a 6.8% ABV Saison brewed with parsley, sage, rosemary and thyme. The beer is brewed three times, once at each brewery using the same recipe. The expected release dates for each brew are as follows:

Hazy deep blond color; medium sized head. Strong spicy aroma, rosemary and sage over the rest; surprisingly harmonious. Highly carbonated, spicy yeast presence, and strong herbal character too, rosemary and thyme; correct bitterness.
Undoubtedly well brewed, although I don’t share passion for this kind of beer.

Cloudy gold beer, thin white head. Complex array of fruits and herbs on the nose. Light and very dry palate. Sweet herbs and tart tangerine and orange. Minerals in the dry finish. Good stuff! DFH inventive as ever!

Bottled at Oliver Twist, Stockholm. Hazy golden, small head. Aroma of coriander and elderflower. Mid sweet with medium body and rounded mouthfeel. Some winegum and citrus. Mid bitter finish.

Bottle: Poured a cloudy dirty beige color ale with a good foamy head with good retention and some lacing. Aroma of spices including spices with solid rustic malt backbone and some nice fruity floral ester. Taste is a great complex mix between some rustic malt with some great notes of sage with nice floral undertones. Thyme and parsley are harder to detect then the other ingredient. Body is full with good carbonation. Solid offering that I would love to have regular access to.

Subtly different from the Stone version. A little spicier in the aroma, a little less spicier in the flavour. Some greens, like salad or garnish greens in the finish. Good in the bottle and worth seeking out.

Bottle: Poured a clear to slight murky yellow with a white head. Aroma is funky fruit, hops, and spices. The taste was more funky fruit, with soft hints of rosemary and hops. Didn’t pick up on much of the other spices. Wouldn’t mind trying the others to see how close they all turned out or the differences.

Bottleshare BBQ at Dave L’s, PA - 27/05/12. Clear pale gold with a creamy head. Sweet malt nose backed with herbs and citrus. Tastes follow nose with grain, earthy mild hops. Medium body quite high carbonation.
