The smells of barbecue and sunscreen, the river rushes by, the warm grass under your feet, a picnic basket full of delicacies – summer pleasure is even more beautiful when it’s shared. For the perfect day outdoors with friends you need the perfect refreshment: Hofbräu Sommerzwickl. Chilled in the river, it refreshes twice as well. Bottle split on the 42nd floor, thanks to Fergoose, 10/11/15. Ever so lightly hazed golden blonde topped with a decent off white cap. Nose is papery, straw, cereals, vanilla, light citric rinse. Taste comprises more paper, grainy, light bread, vanilla, straw, earthy lemon drizzle. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, semi drying close. So so.

Bottle shared in Lpndon on the 42nd floor - many thanks to Fergus. Pours mostly clear yellow with a creamy white head. Nice doughy malts in the nose, a little hay, meringue. Light sweet flavor, lightly papery, with notes of cereal, grain husk, lemon peel. Light bodied with fine to average carbonation. Sweet finish, some bitter hay, more grain husk, citrus rind. Simple but tasty lager.

On tap at Hofbrauhaus, Munchen. Dark gold / light amber color, slightly hazed, big white head, lacing, fizzy. Fruity nose. Aroma is big malty with fruity-sourish note (grapes, pear, orange, jasmin), flowers. Taste sweetish, sourish, balanced. Dry finish, alcohol can be felt, i thought it was around 6%. Nice variation but becomes a bit boring aftwe a while.

Schöne Naturtrübe im Glas, in der Nase malzig, im Trunk bitter, im Abgang leicht süß. Hintenweg nochmal eine lange Bitterkeit. Geht so.

Lightly hopped easy drinking but clean lager. Tried their flagship lager after this and it was much hoppier and drier

Draught @ Waterfront Ale House. Loudy dark yellow with a greenish tint, small creamy white head, doughy aroma, sweetish taste with yeast flavor, high carbonation, abrupt finish. Not too bad.

1L pour at Cafe Berlin in Washington DC. Comes out a hazy orange with some frothy, lacing, white head. Nose is standard, yeast, some dough, some orange, lightly floral, a little biscuit. Flavor is lightly fruit, some dough, some yeast, some orange. Dry finish. Maybe the tap pour helped this, but it was quite nice.
