U.S. bottle from World Market in Berkeley. Skunk arose as the cap lifted. The pour lost nearly all the skunk; maybe all. Light caramel malt aroma (very light) with some noble hop. Good start. Medium in body, moderate, just a bit too harsh for creamy, carbonation. The flavor is perhaps pale malt sweet, but here is some grassy, floral hoppiness. The finish is fairly dry, a bit tingly, with a nice level of bitterness. Good representative of the style, which seems to be maltier and less crisp than Bohemian Pilsner.

12oz bottle-pours a white head with pale yellow color. Aroma is funky, grassy, grain. Taste follows with back up hops.

Light slight haze. Straw colour. Reasonably light body. Crisp, grassy hoppiness. Very fresh-tasting. Moderate bitterness. Dry finish. Well-crafted German-style pils.

12 oz. Bottle, Apr 16, 2006 This is quite clearly labeled as being produced at the Berkeley brewery. Sold at Wild Oats in a six pack with a cylindrical pilsner/alt glass attached. Pours pale straw with a rocky, lacy head on top. Big German hop smell at opening stays with the pour. Lazy stream of bubbles rises through the glass. A nice German malt, with a very, very slight tart note. Kind of a grassy straw taste, finished of by straightforward noble hops bitterness. A solid interpretation of the style, and who’d a thought a place in Berkeley would have the discipline to make a pils to precise German engineering standards.Draft, Sept 18, 2005. Sampled in a solid plastic mug, so I couldn’t get a handle on its color. Have to presume it’s okay. Taste, though, is light and "crisp," like American pale macros claim, but this one really is. But beyond that, not much stands out in the way of hops, just the standard German bitterness against pale malts. Finished nice and dry. Again, an imported pilsner that’s probably much better closer to home.
Additional note, Aug 10, 2006. Finishing the sixer, I found that last bottle started to show more nice German hop bitterness. Crisper and cleaner. I think that’s worth bumpint the rating up a notch.

Draft. Trumer opened up a brewery in Berkeley, CA. Don’t know how different the two beers are, but this is definately for the California version. Pale golden beer with a big white head. Floral/spicey aroma. Crisp beer with some malt backing and a spicey finish. Dry, refreshing, easy to drink. I’d passed on this many time in favor of bigger beers, but this is a good pils for when the weather starts warming up.
