Southern Pecan Nut Brown Ale is the first beer in the world, to our knowledge, made with whole roasted pecans. The pecans are used just like grain and provide a nutty characteristic and a delightful depth to the flavor profile. This beer is very lightly hopped to allow the malty, caramel, and nutty flavors shine through. The color is dark mahogany. Southern Pecan won a Bronze Medal in the 2006 World Beer Cup in the Specialty Beer category.

Bottle. Itβs an orange-brown, almost clear beer with a creamy, beige head. Weak nose, mostly malty, and rather boring. The flavor is sweet and malty, with a tiny hint of sourness and some nutty flavors. Medium body, slightly acidic. The finish is roasted with some bitterness. An easy drinkable beer, but rather boring. Would like more flavor in it, but that would maybe hide all of the pecans. (090605)

Bottle: Poured a clear brown color ale with a rather large foamy head with good retention and minimal lacing. Aroma of caramel malt with some light sweet toffee notes. Taste is dominated by quite rich caramel malt notes with a nice malt presence with no discernable hops presence. I canβt say I really detected any pecans though kudos for trying something different.

12 ounce bottle shared by cdumler at a tasting. Pours a nice clear ruby red color with a thin offwhite head. Head retention and lacing are poor. Pecans are notable present in the aroma with caramel and hops as well. Taste is pecan pie... sweet and earthy with pecan and brown sugar notes. There is a slight bitterness that seems like it comes from the nuts more than the hops. Medium bodied.
