Southern Pecan Nut Brown Ale is the first beer in the world, to our knowledge, made with whole roasted pecans. The pecans are used just like grain and provide a nutty characteristic and a delightful depth to the flavor profile. This beer is very lightly hopped to allow the malty, caramel, and nutty flavors shine through. The color is dark mahogany. Southern Pecan won a Bronze Medal in the 2006 World Beer Cup in the Specialty Beer category.

From my beer club. Sampled from a 12 oz brown bottle this beer poured a dark red-brown with a small beige head that faded quickly but left good lacing. The aroma was sweet toasted nut, caramel and faint fruits - a bit light but very pleasant. The flavor was toasted caramel, sour pecan and light fruits. A sugary and woody undertone surrounded and the finish was long with sweet pecan and caramel. Surprisingly full bodied and smooth. The aroma and flavor elements in this one were subtle but quite remarkable. Very nice.

Bottled, thanks Cletus! Hazy copper colour, huge creamy head. Floral strawberry nose. Fairly sweet with clean, rounded mouthfeel and light-medium body. Some lingonberries. The pecan flavour is akin to chestnut, but nuttier and doesn’t cone with any of the acidity those beers generally have. Low hop rate and only slight bitterness.

Not a pecan fan. Foamed like crazy when opened. Tan foamy head. Smells like porter and nuts. Darker than a pale lager but just as clear. Some decent carbonation. Typical brown ale flavors if not milder than the average. No nuts apparaent, just browny and dark. OK beer experience. Finish is not too bitter. Should have tasted under better ambient circumstances.

Bottle from Josh or ericandersnavy. I’m guessing Josh, cause the cap isn’t taped down! Pours a beautiful ruddy copper with a two finger fine beige head. It actually smells like pecans. Medium body with rather creamy carbonation. Flavor is nutty and roast caramel, with a mild amount of bitter. This stuff is really smooth and lightly nut astringent. Quite tasty. Excellent and better than average brown ale.

Bottled. An amber beer with a thin beige head. The aroma has notes of malt and pecan nuts. The flavor is sweet with notes of malt, nuts, and caramel, leading to a dry, bitter, and nutty finish. Thanks Papsoe for sharing.

Pours hazy caramel color with thin tan head. Smells like pecan pie; brown sugar and pecans. Toasted malts, nuts and molasses flavors. Pretty chewy mouthfeel for a brown ale. Medium body with soft carbonation and mouthfeel.
