Southern Pecan Nut Brown Ale is the first beer in the world, to our knowledge, made with whole roasted pecans. The pecans are used just like grain and provide a nutty characteristic and a delightful depth to the flavor profile. This beer is very lightly hopped to allow the malty, caramel, and nutty flavors shine through. The color is dark mahogany. Southern Pecan won a Bronze Medal in the 2006 World Beer Cup in the Specialty Beer category.

On tap at the Nook. Pours dark brown with a medium, beige head. The aroma is light syrup, and pecans. The flavor is a subdued sweetness, and a mild bitter finish. The palate is medium to heavy and a clean, crisp finish. Overall, a simple, but tasty beer.

Slightly clear coloured lighter brown body with a thin, one centimetre tall tan head with a touch of a ruby glow - light! Aroma of pale malt, cardboard, a touch of nuts and some light caramel and sweetness. Light-bodied; Pungent nutty flavour with a bunch of malt and caramel and a little earth and almost nothing else. Aftertaste has a light sweetness and a little malt with some residual nuts - again, not too much complexity. Overall, a pretty typical brown, especially for the style - too little flavours and too watery of a taste. I sampled this twelve ounce bottle purchased from Total Wine in St. Petersburg, Florida on 13-November-2010 sampled at home in Washington on 26-February-2011.

Received this in trade from jtrockchalk, thanks for the opportunity. Pours a reddish amber with a bubbly off white head that sticks around for a while. Smell is sweet and malty. I pick up caramel and brown sugar, slight nuttiness as it warms. Taste is sweet with malts a bit of a nuttiness in the background. Body is medium to thin, mouthfeel is creamy/bubbly, carbonation is a bit on the high side. Would make a decent enough session beer, but nothing really remarkable.

Bought a 6-pack of this at a gas station coming back from Memphis. Quite interesting, as this nut brown ale really is brewed with roasted pecans. It pours a clear copper colour with a thin off-white head. Hardly any lacing and carbonation is light. Aroma is nutty, roasted malty and with hints of cherries and bananas. Mild tart in the mouthfeel, coming from the pecans. The taste is close to the smell, with the nuts and malt, but I do find the hop a bit unpleasantly unbalanced with the rest of the brew. Maybe that is just the thing that makes me less enjoy nut browns.

Bottle thanks to drowland. Disappointing brown ale pours cola colored with no head. Nose barely registers as caramel. Taste is lightly caramel flavored water and watered down nut juice. I can’t really place the kind of nut. Almonds? Pecans? Not sure. Anyway, I’m not sure what I’m missing here. Bad bottle? Perhaps.

At a tasting, thanks Shahar, clear beautifull reddish colour, aroma of granola, banana, pecan pie, and brown sugar, flavour of soapy yeast, light nuttiness and some fruit and a light mellow sweetness, light medium sweet aftertaste. Intriguing and original.

Bottle sample at a tasting. Thanks Shachar. Beer of the Month club. Clear brown. Malty aroma with nuts, caramel a bit of chocolate and carob. Nutty flavor with malt, somewhat sugary and a bit artificial, with pecan and fruit. Light-medium-bodied. Not my thing.

Draught at Prime Bar Tampa: Poured a amber brown clear with a thin off white head. Aroma was sweet and nutty. Taste is sweet malt and finished like a pecan pie. I expected it to taste a bit bitter in the finish with the nuts, but it had a real sweetening affect.
