Southern Pecan Nut Brown Ale is the first beer in the world, to our knowledge, made with whole roasted pecans. The pecans are used just like grain and provide a nutty characteristic and a delightful depth to the flavor profile. This beer is very lightly hopped to allow the malty, caramel, and nutty flavors shine through. The color is dark mahogany. Southern Pecan won a Bronze Medal in the 2006 World Beer Cup in the Specialty Beer category.

Bottle. Nutty sweet caramel malt and vegetal aroma. Clear chestnut with a moderate tan head. Lightly sweet caramel malt, nutty, tannic vegetal flavor. Light body, moderate carbonation. I donโ€™t quite get pecans out of this, but itโ€™s a nice brown ale.

On tap at a Taco Mac. Pours a clear caramel brown with a tan head that lasts throughout the beer. Aroma has a good amount of bread and grain with hints of sweetness and nuttiness. Flavor starts with slightly sweet grains with a growing nuttiness and a hint of caramel.

Bottle. Pours clear deep amber with a medium beige creamy head and good lacing. Aroma is roasted malt, caramel and notes of pecans. Flavor is mildly sweet with roasted malt dominating. Nothing special.

Bottle, about a year and a half old. Chocolate caramel, nutty nose, a bit tart. Tasty nutty caramel flavor, fruity, and a sourness that tells me itโ€™s past its prime, though the tart aspect works well enough.

12oz bottle. Hazy orange-brown. Thin beige head. Caramel and nuts in the aroma, some sugary orange. Rather simple and inexpertly executed Brown Ale. Thin, medium body. The pecan is there, giving it a little individuality. Inoffensive, quite sessionable, with some sweet sugary brown malt in the finish. Subtle, but canโ€™t really hang with the World Class big boys.

Draft. Clear brown color, small tan head. Aroma of caramel, toast. Taste is malty, but some bitterness sneaks in at the end. A bit plain, but OK.

Bottle with gooovikings in KC. Thanks Jetson! Dark amber appearance with an off white head. Toasty, nutty, light pecan, sweet brown malty aroma. Sweet, toasty nutty, somewhat syrupy, caramel, brown malty flavor. The beer sounds way more tasty than it actually is.

Pecan, bark, and light maple syrup notes on the nose. Subtle gym sock smell also detectable. Light brown, clear, thick creamy tan head, good lacing. Nougat and vanilla flavor, with weak cherry notes. Alcohol not noticeable. Slightly tangy, not bitter, quaffable. This was an elusive tick for me, since Mississippi beers arenโ€™t available in Virginia. I drove 150 miles out of my way to Birmingham while visiting family in Georgia. The bar I visitedndid not have it but I was able to find it in a nearby bottle shop, thanks to to the bartender. This beer is actually worth the trouble.
