Can from O’Brien’s, Athlone [040217]
Pitch black, tan head
Aroma of soft coconut, sweet chocolate
Taste of dark malts, lots of coconut, plain chocolate, dab of soft bitter roast, tasty
Palate - Medium carb and body, bit thin for abv, hint of alcohol. Finish of dark chocolate Bounty bar, even more of this flavour in the linger
Overall - The flavour in the finish is really good, plain chocolate Bounty, but not that complex

(Keg at BrewDog Helsinki, 20170207) The beer poured black. Its head was medium sized and lightly brown. Aroma had coconut, dark chocolate and burnt malts. Palate was medium bodied with medium carbonation. Flavours were dark chocolate, coconut flakes, cocoa powder, ash, sweetness and bitterness. Aftertaste was sweet, burnt and bitter. The coconut was way too strong in the aroma but in the taste it blended nicely.

Tap @ Brewdog Helsinki. Poured dark mahogany color with a thin white head. Coconut dominates, some toast, some ripe fruits, some almonds. Coconut oily buttery flavor, sweetness, vanilla notes, fudge. I like coconut. Here it is just nicely balanced.

Draught @ Brewdog Helsinki. Pours pitch black with a thick foamy head. Aroma of coconuts, roasty malts, coffee, chocolate and vanilla. Taste is sweetish, heavy with coconut notes, some roastiness, chocolate and coffee. Finish is roasty with some coffee, licorice, coconut and chocolate notes. Quite a lot of coconut here.

Only tried a third as I’m not a fan of coconut. Black beer, thick head though it diminishes quickly. Has a distinct hit of coconut in the smell and taste so I’m glad I only went for a third. Does have a good blend of earthy malt, some bitter coffee and a dash of hop too so it’s not totally lost on me but the coconut spoils it. Totally a personal taste thing though, there’s nothing wrong with the beer.

Keg at Brewdog Shepherds Bush, London. A black coloured pour with a huge beige head on top. Chocolate, coffee, coconut, vanilla on the nose. Tastes similar, chocolate, coffee, coconut, vanilla. A delicious rich tasting porter from Brewdog.
