Dark brown color. The aroma is bready, with roasted malts. The mouthfeel is not weak, but quite dry; nice flavor of roasted malts, some dark chocolate, rye, maybe a touch of smoke.

On tap at Fremont, pours a reddish deep dark brown / near-black with a small beige head. Aroma brings out toasted malt, some dry cocoa, and leather. Flavour is quite rich for a brown ale, with notes of cocoa, leather and toasted malt. Medium residual sweetness with a rather thick body for the style. Very nicely constructed.

Deep brown with ruby highlights and topped with a pillowy tan head. Slightly roasted malt, some chocolate, a smidgen of smoke, and light melted caramel in the aroma. Medium bodied. Flavor follows on the mostly muted notes that the aroma introduced us to. Some chocolate, roasted malts, caramel, with a stronger, hoppier finish than expected with light bitterness. Sweet malt regains its rightful place as the bitterness fades. Easy going and straightforward. Not a mind bender just an easy going brown.

Bottle thanks to Lizzie and Daren. Pours a clear amber brown with a a fluffy tan head that lasts throughout the beer and laces slightly. Aroma has notes of bread and nuts with a bit of earthy grain underlying. Flavor is a bit thin but has a slight nuttiness and some earthy bread.

[3/2/15] Draught at Fremont Brewing in Seattle. Deep amber to brown color. Aroma of malt, caramel, a bit of fruitiness and vegetal notes. Sweet flavor, malty, caramelly, a bit toasty, with a fruity touch and a mildly bitterish finish. Medium-bodied.

Bottle: Traditional brown color, medium depth, topped with a finger of sticky beige head. Malty aroma, earthy, some chocolate malt. Hints of campfire… it becomes much stronger in the taste, but not too strong. Earthy, floral, smoky, nutty… a complex layering of flavors. Finishes with a lingering floral bitterness and campfire smoke. Nice.

Bottle @ home, picked up at Wilbur’s Foco a month or so back. Pours a burnt, Amber orange appearance with a light brown head. Nutty, herbal, earthy nose with some caramel and a hint of burnt chocolate. A bit sweet. A little doughy. Cracker, toasted malt. Some grass and grain. Ok.

Draft pour at the forcasters pub. Pours a dark reddish brown with a creamy tan head. Light, gently sweet malt aroma. Rich malts flavor. Creamy body with maybe a touch of smoke. I was honestly hoping this would be more smokey, but either way, it’s a good beer.
