Old rating from 10-09-15 - 500ml bottle, pours a dark caramel brown colour with a light beige head. Aromas of fruity caramel with hops. Tastes of malty sweetness, fruits, berries and caramel with the alcohol content coming though a little. Aftertaste is quite warming with a bittersweet fruity finish.

Bottle online from Beers Of Europe. Pours a very dark chestnut brown colour with a thin fast dissipating beige head. Aromas of fruit cake, dry dark fruits, brown bread and caramel. Taste has more fruit cake, caramel, molasses, chocolate, brown sugar and warming alcohol. Sweet alcoholic finish. Doesn’t seem very well balanced and a bit too sweet at the end for me personally. Medium body, average carbonation and smooth oily mouthfeel. Decent enough and flavourful but i have had better strong Ale.

500ml bottle. Dark red, thin head, circular retention. Aroma of roasted malts, dark fruits, toffee, quite earthy. Taste surprised me by being very nice, semi-sweet, smooth, dark fruits, spice, toffee malts, booze, low to moderate bitterness in the finish. A lovely treat of a beer. I wasn't expecting this from Marston's, this is by far and away the best I've tried from this brewer.

Cask at Peacock, Derby (NOT in Norway, strangely enough !) Pours a dark red / burgundy with a small cream head and good lacing. Has a heady aroma of nuts & blackberries together with alcoholic strength. In the mouth the texture is creamy, spicy and boozy, with taste of black cherries, dark fruits and liquorice. Finish is spicy and boozy. A true classic – if you see it, drink it !
