Our take on this historic style is brewed with a variety of specialty malt and Centennial and East Kent Golding hops. We ferment this beer warmer than usual with lager yeast for a unique ester profile.

On tap at Studio, pours an opaque, muddy orange with a small white head — that doesn't look right. Aroma is very dirty, with a sort of dirty water character coming through; none of the fresh bread you hope for in the style. Flavour is likewise very dirty, with a muffled earthiness and maybe faint crusty bread. What's happening here? This is nothing like a typical Cali Common: dirty, muffled and lacking any vibrancy. Poor.

Poured from the tap. Murky brownish yellow (like diarrhea water) with full white head. Spelt and ancient grain, mild honey, and light hopping. Not sure what they used, but I'm guessing the variety of specialty malt is what makes this more unique (whether that's good or bad is debatable).

Cloudy light brown body and okay foam. Lots of chewy biscuit on the nose, honey and ladyfingers bought in bulk at Wal-mart. Taste is much the same with sugary biscuit dominating, ending chewy. This kind of beer should be clean and malty - it's missing the mark rather severely.
