This one’s properly decadent.

Lactose sweetness and oats, combined with hints of chocolate, toffee and biscuity maltiness, create a warming blend. Roasted coffee and hop bitterness provide balance, and a velvety mouthfeel rounds off a satisfyingly smooth dark beer.

26/2/2022. Can shared with the ITFC boys at the Morecambe tasting. From Hoppily, Chelmsford. Pours very dark brown with a large foamy off-white to beige head. Aroma of coffee, caramel, light roasted malt, dark fruits, chocolate. Medium sweetness, moderate roasted bitterness. Medium body, slightly creamy, average carbonation. Nicely done.

Can from Suffolk Food Hall, nr Ipswich. Instant coffee with hotel milk (whatever those things are called). Darkest brown. It wants to be stygian but isn't goth enough. Thick fluffy foamy beige head. A few seconds of lactose creaminess. Then molasses tinged coffee bitterness tales over. Thin. Light. Soft-fizzy carbonation. Long astringent finish. Enjoyable bit really very thin. Actually, come to think of it, they mouthfeel is bubbly, fluffy.

440ml can, gift from the barman at Hop Beer Shop. Shared with Finn on a train from Colchester to Liverpool Street. Fawn-coloured head remaining over a pitch black body, lacing rings down the glass. Lightly roasted mid-sweet malts on the nose. Fine balanced taste of biscuit and chocolate malts, milk lactose backbone. Has got ending notes of roasted chocolate malts. Fine depth to it. Likable. (Train session, 23.11.2021).
