Allagash Saison is our interpretation of a classic Belgian farmhouse-style ale. Saisons were once brewed to slake the thirst of farmers returning from a long day of toil; they were spicy, light, and drinkable.
We brew this amber beer with a 2-row barley blend, malted rye, oats, and dark Belgian candi sugar. Northern Brewer, Bravo, and Cascade hops deliver a citrus profile with light bitterness. By fermenting with a traditional saison yeast strain, notes of spice and tropical fruit accent the aroma. Citrus and peppery spice balance its pleasant malt character. This beer is full bodied with a rustic, dry finish. Made for enjoying, no matter which type of work you’re returning from.

This was poured into a tulip.
The appearance was a light hazy yellow color with a big one finger white foamy head that dissipated to some bubbles and had a messy lacing.
The smell had a decent rustic to earthy yeasty breadiness with a refreshing blend of sweet citrus and a light coriander spice.
The taste copied the smell and carried a nice lingering sweet bready aftertaste leading to a sweet wet finish.
On the palate, this one sat about a light on the body with a great sessionability about it. The carbonation was good for me and for the style. Refreshing lemon coated yeastiness flows over my tongue.
Overall, I say this was a pretty good saison I’d have again.

Herb hefiger Antrunk mit nussig getreidiger Basis. Zunehmend hopfig, auch alkoholische Noten sind allerdings vorhanden. Gewürzig, sehr frisch, gute Balance. Weich ausgleitend. 10/12/12/12//12

Pours unclear yellow, small white head. Smell is fresh, grainy. Taste is bitter, dry, hay. Ok, nothing really new, but true to the style and its belgian standards

Pour is a clear blonde with a large white head. Aroma is a nice yeast, green hop, spice and fruitiness. Flavor is a nice big juicy citrus fruit to start then comes a nice white pepper with an equally nice mellow Belgian yeast that leaves a almost vanilla left on the tongue. This was a great saison. Plenty of farmhouse flavors with some American hops.

I just tried the Two Roads saison and this is a bit more of what I was hoping that beer would be - much more firm and round in the mouth - where that beer is simple, this is subtle but fairly complex - gentle, well-balanced mix of esters and phenols - my one complaint here is that they are a little too subdued by the slight sweetness that develops late - otherwise rustic and lovely to drink.

On tap, keg from 8/15/2014. Enjoyed at 50 F in wine stemware. Pours a hazy golden hue with a 3 finger frothy head. leaves a sticky lacing. Nose is oatmeal, peppery spice, lots of clove, honey and orange peel. Taste is pretty classic saison. I wish there was some brettanomyces funk in this beer. It has a nice dry finish, spice and herbal qualities like ground pepper, coriander and orange peel. Good mouthfeel....i just want that funk.

Bottle shared in CT. Pours hazy yellow-gold, with a creamy white head. The nose has some Belgian yeast, lemon zest, mild doughy wheat. Light-medium sweet flavor with some wheat biscuits, straw, some lemony tang, hay. Light to medium bodied with average carbonation. Crisp finish with pale wheat sweetness, light bitter straw, more yeast, zesty citrus. Well balanced. Solid.

Bottle from Total Wine in Sacramento, CA. Pours light gold with a 3 finger foamy white head. Lots of bubbles. Aroma is rather complex. Citrus, spice, earth. Maybe more. Med body, nearly. Flavor is very clean, very citrus. But there’s a lot of earth/spice/yeast coming along. It’s almost tangy. Extremely enjoyable.
