Cherry Lambic Sour Ale

Winner of a gold medal at the 2018 Great American Beer Festival, Transatlantique Kriek begins its life in oaken vessels of Gert Christiaens’ Oud Beersel, a 130-year-old lambic brewery in the Zenne valley of Belgium – home of authentic Lambic beer. After time spent aging in wood, Oud Beersel’s lambic is blended with tart Polish cherries and shipped across the Atlantic to New Belgium. In concert with Oud Beersel’s cherry lambic, or Kriek, we blend an equal portion of golden sour ale matured for 1 – 3 years in our oak vessels called foeders. 50% Sour Golden Ale blended with 50% Traditional Cherry Lambic Ale leads to an intense cherry nose, a sour flash across the palate and a refreshing, mouthwatering finish.

From the January 2014 3R6P tasting +++ Sampled from a 22oz brown bottle this beer poured a dark red color with a large foamy pink head that lingered and left decent lacing. The aroma was dish soap, a bit of yeast and moderate cherry. The flavor was cherry pie filling but not overly sweet with a bready undertone. Medium length finish with lingering cherry. Medium body. Decent.

22oz bottle. Filtered amber-red body. Pink tinged head laces the glass. The aroma is not impressive at all..medicinal dry aspirin. This sort of carries over into the flavor. In no way would I be hyped up to try this beer again, this is a failure. Kind of like a test tube version of a Boon beer. Disappointing. A lot of cherry, but comes off really sterile.

bottle - Pours bright red with a small, off-white head. It has a nice cherry aroma. It tastes of tart cherries and sweet malt. Medium bodied and a bit earthy, it has a full fruit flavor and is very good.

650 ml bottle. Pours a ruby red with moderate pink head. Aromas of candied cherries, cranberries, and light barnyard. Flat/muted flavors of cherries and malt with a bit of funk. Dry and highly carbonated. Seems to be a watered down version, flatter version of a Belgian. Was expecting more.

On Tap at Whole Foods Boise. Clear ruby red witha skiff of a head. Dry tart cherry aroma. Not so much as teh recent Chery Berlinner I’ve had. More subtle cherry flavor and and an other wise miled slightly tart body. Dry and much less pucker than I anticipated....or hoped
