Our Abstrakt journey continues with AB:17; a three-coffee rye imperial porter. Big chocolately roasty malts, spicy rye, and more coffee than Twin Peaks - we’ve added espresso in the mash, cafetiere in the boil, and whole bean in the whirlpool and the FV. Courtesy of Has Bean, we’ve got a rich mix of spicy, bitter and heady coffee flavours mixing with the vanilla pods we threw in for good measure. AB:17 is in the final days of maturation and is almost ready for bottling. It is tasting incredibly smooth and decadent. A perfect winter beer?

Bottle from Appellation Wines. Appearance - opaque black with a thin crema head. Nose - fresh coffee beans a touch of dark chocolate but only just. Taste - again coffee with dark chocolate lurking. Palate - full bodied with a big creamy texture and a pretty balanced finish. Overall - it’s a really good beer but I generally have an issue with coffee stouts as the coffee tends to dominate everything to the extent that it makes it somewhat single dimensional.

Bottle at Beer Hunters. Dark opaque brown color, small brownish head. Aroma has coffee and cocoa. Medium-bodied to full-bodied. Smooth. Coffee, chocolate and tickiling alcohol. Much better drinkability than in many other abstrak ts. Not very complex but nicely sippable.

37,5 cl bottle @ O?hara?s Freehouse, Tampere. Bottle #639/12250, bottled 04.11.2014. Aroma has rubbery tones, some licorice and distant herbal tones. Flavour has alcohol, cocoa, rubbery tones, grass, herbs and coffee. Like mikkeller Black with coffee added. Alcohol tries to get through at the middle of the glass. Too bitter in a harsh way with all that rubber.
