Pours clear dark brown with a finger of light tan head. Aroma of toffee, vanilla, caramel, light bread, light banana, some basement aromas. Taste is big, bold butterscotch burnt butter sweet, long sweet finish. Body is rich and creamy although with very rich carbonation, which kind of pulls the entire package apart.

Bottle. Pours orange with a off white head. Smells and tastes like a bitter fruit cake with hops. Warming. Yeasty. Spicy.

New Beer Distributors, NY 330ml ($3): 2009 bottle. Pours a brownish murk with a small head. Aroma is boozy, sugary, malty, and cakish. Taste is slightly boozy. Rather sweet. Mouthfeel is much lighter than expected. This ain’t that good of a barley wine. The extra years didn’t seem to mellow out the booze taste, but whatever, it was actually pretty easy to drink and that ain’t ever a bad thing.

Bottle at O’Connor’s, Uppsala July 2012. Hazy reddish/brown with a small head. Sweet aroma and taste of toffee, malt, syrup and some dried dark fruit. Big body on this one and not that much carbonation. Really a nice beer to sip. I am glad that I finally got to try it. Would love to have some bottles at home.

330ml Bottle - Hazy copper with a small head. Marzipan, raisins, fruit cake, leather and malt in the aroma. Fruity, sweet and malty taste with notes of Christmas cake, spice, raisins, malt and nuts. Easy to drink, yet full of body. Its taste belies its ABV. I have another bottle of this in my ’cellar’ and look forward to seeing how it matures. It is certainly very enjoyable and impressive at this stage.

Tasted at Dark Lord Day 2011. Yes, I distinctly read "2008" from the label into my audio notes. Rarer than a Pliny, I’m guessing. Dark barley wine, very sweet malts. Solidly alcoholic. Hops were a little hard to find in the nose, but in the palate they show up, quite sturdy and bitter. That’s all the impressions I recorded, it was the end of a long day of drinking.
