A sip of Be Mine will bring one word to mind, decadence. The tart cherries and cocoa nibs added to the already rich dark fruit and raisin of our Quadraphonic Quadrupel results in a hedonistic delight for the senses. This once a year release is perfect for sharing with someone special.

I appreciate the nuances of various quadrupels, easily my favorite beer style. I have found adding flavoring of some kind tends to overwhelm those attributes. I’m hoping Be Mine does not do that. I discovered a 750 ml bottle of this beer at a Total Wine on a trip to Orlando a month ago or so. Chilled now and ready to lift into my Straffe Hendrik snifter. It shows a light-for-a-quad brown in color and has a curious large-bubbled head that swiftly settles. I have a good smell, very encouraging, dates, dark fruit and bread dough. But it is the drink that is critical. Oh my, this is interesting. The cherry does show up but not too much of it. Malt, figs, toasted cereal, a hint of chocolate and curiously, cough drops. A very credible presentation.

Pours very dark brown, no real head. Smell is rather sharp, mild chocolate. Taste is full, chocolate, milder red fruits, sweet rather sticky. OK.
