Fra flaske på Tap1 mai-13: en typisk winter warmer preget av engelsk eleganse med fruit cake og toffee. Tydelig men allikevel harmonisk. Integrert, med andre ord. Må prøves fra cask.

Sample @ DØE. Nice head with good duration. Color is amber. Aroma and taste are caramel, malt, grass, straw, fruits and hops.

Bottle from Cockney Pub, Aarhus. Clear amber with an off-white head. Aroma is sweet, malty, caramel, fruity and light hoppy - grass. Flavor is quite sweet and moderate bitter. Dry and moderate bitter finish. 220513

Aroma has toffee, some English hops and nuts. Flavour has toffee, some caramel, English hops and hay. Finishes nutty. This is quite exactly what it promises to be: a stronger version of Abbot.

500ml bottle - a nice strong copper coloured beer, bit of a fizzy white head. Got a good hit of toffe and vanilla in the nose, bit of fruit, bit of sugar. A bit of a syrupy texture to the mouthfeel, a bit of boozy fruit, and a lasting aftertaste. Surprisingly good.

Aug 2009: Clear 500ml bottle, poured into a ’Palm Special’ bulbous tulip glass (twice). Lovely reddy brown coloured body, clear and clean, a well formed off-white, tan coloured, creamy head sat on top with both pours. The aroma was of molasses and toffee, sweet for a normal UK ale. The sweet malts/molasses hit your tastebuds straight away, a dry bitterness follows in the aftertaste as the hops kick in. The rear label mentions fruit cake flavours, but I didn’t detect any cake on my palate, this isn’t a rich fruit cake beer; having said that, it is full bodied and very pleasnt to drink. My tasting was on a sunny afternoon, this is a cold evening by the fire sort of beer. Greene King get a lot of bad press from a lot of the UK CAMRA guys, and I often join in. I’ll have to think twice now before having a go at the brewery if they are producing such good beers as this on a regular basis.

Bottle. Amber with a medium head. The aroma is malty-earthy caramel with light spice. Caramel taste. The alcoholic muscle shows in the finish. A fairly simple beer.

500 ml bottle. Pours a burnt orange with a small head. Aroma is burnt fruit cake and bread. Some spice on the taste and a burnt, bitter finish. Quite smooth.

500ml bottle from Sainsburys, Bracknell. Golden amber with a ring of off-white head; intense aroma of roasted malt and caramelraisin sweetness in the mouth with lots of dark sugar supported by a chewy malt body; quite a prickly mouthfeel. The finish is long and warming with vanilla and oak.
