2016 catch up - bottle at home - To me there was a strong taste of caramel in the beer and it completely overpowered everything else. There was some malt and bitter hops, but the caramel was everywhere! Two drunk because they were part of the mixed pack, but this is not one that I would want again.

Bronze color. Aroma: butter, diacetyl, malt, a little fruit, a little flower-earthy hop. Taste: malt and butter, a little biscuit, citrus, fruit and hops, light earthy bitterness. ESB

500 ml clear bottle, from a cornershop in London.ABV is 5.4%. Deep golden to amber colour, large white (or slightly off-white) head. Strong Heineken-like aroma of lightstruck hops, not unpleasant though. Also notes of nuts, toffee and caramel. Drunk too cold. The flavour is a bit on the sweet side, with nutty notes, some lightly roasted malts, and a little caramel.

Clear amber liquid, tall airy frothy off-white head. Good retention. Smells of caramel, biscuit & spicy hop. Light to medium body. Bittersweet taste. Caramel, massive harsh striking herbal bitterness. Long bitter hoppy finish. Quite decent but could use more smoothness.

Cask at the Eagle, Cambridge. Ruddy brown with a very loose off-white head. A bit of astringency and toffee on the nose, not much else. The actual taste is very nice: sugar sweet with a red berry bitterness right at the end. However the finish is a let down. Short, slightly sulphurous and a bit of a mess. This us the first cask ale I’ve had that truly replicates the pasteurised-to-hell metallic blandness of a bottled supermarket bitter. But... it is drinkable and has its good moments. So, not all doom and gloom.
