Red Dread

Bitter Root Brewing in Hamilton, Montana, United States 🇺🇸

Amber / Red Ale - Imperial Regular
Score
7.11
ABV: 8.1% IBU: 60 Ticks: 5
Imperial Red Ale is brewed with 10 different malts, 4 different hops, and dry-hopped with some of those hops to give our beer that profound hop profile that doesn't get overwhelmed by the big malty body of this big beer.
The malt and hop aromas that you initially perceive, are balanced and complimentary.
Caramely, toffee, hints of chocolate, dates, are followed by the fruity, citrusy hop flavors, that make this beer very enjoyable now, and will allow this brew to age and develop into smooth, very malty beer within a year of proper storage.

355ml can. (8.0% ABV) Pours a hazy orange-red with a medium, creamy, long lasting, beige head that laces nicely. Sweet aroma of toasted bready malt, caramel, grapefruit, orange peel, dark chocolate and piney hops. Sweet flavour of toasted bready malt, caramel, toffee, grapefruit, pine resin and grass in a dry, bitter, spicy hop finish. Medium body with an oily texture and average carbonation. Very nice. My first sampling of this brewery left me pleasantly surprised. Looking forward to trying another beer from these guys.

12oz can pours with a murky copper brown body that supports a thin light tan head of foam. The aroma offers up crystal malts, spicy hops, thin pine hops and citrus. These notes create an inviting blend of aromatics. The taste delivers a pleasing blend of crystal malts, sweet malts, citrus hops, spicy hops and a bit of grassiness. This all comes together wonderfully. Well done.

Bottle. Waited a long time to find this, finally came across a lone bottle in the Bozeman Co-Op on my move back to Boise. Sort of muddy, reddish-brown in color and topped with a creamy beige head. Thick lacing. The nose is muted in floral hops, lightly bready. More earthy and floral in the taste, but a heavy bready malt presence. No real spice, but hints of earthy bits and dandelion. The hops a there, but somewhat subdued. No idea how old the bottle is, but it reminds me of an aged Double Bastard (if it were toned down a couple notches). Drinks well.

22 ounce bottle thanks to MikeJ. Pours a deep red hue with a large beige head. A sweet caramel, musty nose, light hops. A nice rich fruity caramel, dry, dusty,

Very nice and tasty. Bitter and hoppy, just the way I like it.
